PUBLIC BENEFITS
When you are seeking assistance with your tax return, you should choose an Associate or Fellow of the FTA, the association that regulates professional tax advisers on a voluntary basis.
WHY CHOOSE AN 'FTA' MEMBER?
Acceptance and training. Applications for membership of the Federation are carefully checked and referenced before acceptance by the Federation. Members receive continuing training from the Federation's own tax specialists.
Competency. The FTA regulates the activities of Associates and Fellows ensuring they reach the required standards of competence, accuracy and confidentiality and also practises regular scrutiny to ensure that all members maintain these high standards.
Members who fail to uphold the exacting standards demanded by the Federation face the sanction of loss of membership.
ADVANTAGES OF USING AN 'FTA' MEMBER
Code of Practice. When you choose an Associate or Fellow of the FTA to assist in the preparation of your tax return you can be confident that they comply with the exacting standards demanded by the Federation and comply with its rigorous Code of Practice.
Professional Indemnity Insurance. Clients of members of the Federation benefit from Professional Indemnity Insurance cover carried by Associates and Fellows that is a condition of membership.
Regulation. The Federation regulates the activities of all Associates and Fellows and therefore encourages members to give proper standards of service to taxpayers.
SECURITY
Professional advisers. With
the advent of self assessment and online filing, a large
number of taxpayers complete their own tax return and do not
take advantage of employing an agent. Whilst this may
offer taxpayers a saving on professional fees, it may actually
cost them more in tax as a result of not being properly
advised.
